WHAT IS PROOF OF FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY?

The Dallas Police Department‘s Auto Pound requires proof of financial responsibility in order to drive a car out of the lot.  This means that you must show proof of insurance and that the insurance policy must be valid and in effect.  The Dallas Auto Pound will not release your car without proof of insurance (unless you are a Lien holder repossessing the vehicle, a Motor Vehicle Insurance Company or taking an Auctioned Vehicle).

You MUST ALWAYS CARRY PROOF OF INSURANCE IN DALLAS.  According to the Dallas Police Department Website, if your car is towed due to you having NO INSURANCE, a citation will be issued and the fees can not be waived.  It is important to keep your car insurance policy updated and to carry your proof of insurance/insurance card at all times.  Please note, many auto insurance companies will offer you a digital insurance card which is accessible by phone.  Many Governmental Agencies do not accept such e-insurance cards as valid proof of insurance.
